Paul Dickson Scoutmaster Award
In recognition of the Scoutmaster families for their dedication to the success of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 7 program chartered by Sellersburg United Methodist Church following 42 years of outstanding service by Scoutmaster Paul Dickson.
As told by Larry Dixon September 1997
The first charter was dated February 6th 1931 at Sellersburg United Methodist Church. This charter ended the last day of February 1932. Sometime in 1932 the Troop 7 charter was renewed and the Troop has been in existence since then.
In 1991 the charter almost ended after the death of long time Scoutmaster Paul Dixon. Sellersburg United Methodist Church decide to let the charter go since it did not appear there was going to be some one come forward to take the Scoutmaster position. During this time Ralph Coulter was going through fast start training and taking steps to become the next Scoutmaster of Troop 7. He restarted the troop in January of 1992. Currently the Troop is approximately 75 years old depending on which charter start date is observed. Before Ralph Coulter started as Scoutmaster of Troop 7, all of the old Documents, certificates and other memorabilia was given to Paul Dixon’’ family and scouting friends after Paul’s death. The only record of Troop 7 history now is through Larry Dixon, Paul Dixon’s son. Larry is still a Scouter serving on the District Level.
